Horace Ward
Horace Taliaferro Ward (born July 29, 1927) was the first African American to challenge the racially discriminatory practices at the University of Georgia (UGA) School of Law.
Ward was born in LaGrange, Georgia. After high school Ward enrolled at Morehouse College in Atlanta and majored in political science. Upon completion of his bachelor's degree in 1949, he enrolled at Atlanta University (later Clark Atlanta University), earning a master's degree in 1950. He was a member of the Georgia State Senate and the first African American ever to serve on the federal bench in Georgia when he was appointed by President Jimmy Carter to the United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia. Ward is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity. ==References==
